I'm a single mom with 3 daughters. They are 15, 14, & 12 - my relationship with their dad started when I was 17, and I was very naive about love. My parents were really strict and he was my way out basically, although I thought I loved him at the time and I was raised where divorce wasn't an option. He was 4 years older than me, but I dont think we were very mature then, probably still aren't really. Anyway, I dont think he was ever taught LOVE, I mean the kind of love two people have between each other or that they take care of each other, not one is domineering over the other. Which is the way he grew up, his mother controlled their house. Which I'm sure that is the way she was raised, but that is not the way I was raised, so there in lied our problem. We never really dated either...we moved in together and lived together 2 years before we got married. Big mistake...we should have waited. But then we wouldn't have had our 3 daughters, and for that I am thankful and have no regrets. Except that they have to go through with having divorced parents and living in the situation they're living in. It hasn't been really healthy for a foundation for their relationships though. Luckily they are smart enough to see through a lot of things...and I teach them to be open, and accepting, caring and loving. Which is hard to do sometimes, since they are teenagers. I also try to teach them to be giving, but that is hard to do sometimes, since they are around very materialistic people. Also, teaching myself those qualities so I can pass that on to them. I am learning about relationships myself and about what LOVE is. Maybe we can learn together
